BUNYORO KINGDOM
The kingdom of Bunyoro was established in the early 14th century by Rukidi-Mpuga after the disintegration of the Chwezi Empire or Empire of Kitara. The founders of Bunyoro were known as the Babiito, a people who succeeded the Bachwezi.
According to mythical oral traditions the Abatembuzi were the founding people of the empire. Then they were attacked by the Abachwezi pastoralists who finally formed the empire of Bunyoro-Kitara. The title given to the kings of Bunyoro was OMUKAMA.
