What is civics?
Civics is the study of human rights and responsibilities of citizen, the governance and environment in which our society is found.
Civics as academic subject in Tanzania
The Civics is a compulsory core subject for the student at the Ordinary Secondary Education (Form I – IV). The purpose of learning civics is to to enable students to promote an understanding and appreciation for our nation, its culture and better management of our resources, develop an understanding and appreciation of the current international understanding and cooperation and be able to evaluate its impact on our society.
Civics helps students to develop civic responsibility and active civic participation, develop the ability of collecting and analyzing information about current events which shape the social, cultural, political, economical and technological development of the Tanzania society.
Civics also, enable students develop into full human personalities who are able to accept the challenges of working hard for their own development and the development of the nation.
