Classification of teacher failing in teaching profession as a normative enterprise

According to Carr David (2000), there are four areas where teacher has failed in relation to teaching profession as normative enterprises. The four areas are:

1. Incompetence; incompetence in the form of inadequacy knowledge and ability to understand a subject matter in terms of failure in pedagogical competence; content competence;

lack of authority in classes; and inability to communicate with students.

2. Failure to promote pupil’s independence of mind. It is a teacher’s task to guide this nature to a child, but there is moment teacher fails to do this.

How should teacher promote this nature to a pupil?

i. Allow students to ask questions. You have to give students opportunity to contribute whatever they have in their minds.

ii. Sometimes teachers plant their norms and ideology or beliefs to the students.

3. Representative danger and insecurity to pupils. Teacher fails to succeed their task as a representative of parents when engaging in non – qualified issues like sexual abuse to pupil; sometimes teacher may join students in gambling issues; encouraging students in neglecting ethics; also teacher may engage in the use of corporal punishments.

4. Violation of professional norms. For example setting wrong expressions and life styles like dressing code; or teaching by influencing or attracting homosexuality, gambling games, or violating professional norms through the aspect of heavy drinking and punishment.
