Ways to Help Slow Learners
A child can be described as a slow learner if his or her thinking skills develop at a notably slower rate than that of his or her peers. Slow learners IQ ranks between 70 - 90%.
Their educational attainment is less than 80% of what is normal for their age.
Slow learners have no learning disorders, but they perform poorly in school and exhibit discrepancy between expected and actual achievement, based on their intellectual ability assessment scores.
Learning and understanding are two different things. Many people confuse the two and think they need to be fast learners.
1. Develop Lessons that Incorporate the Student’s interests, needs, and experiences.
2. Incorporating films, videotapes, and audio into lessons helps accommodate the instruction to the strategies learning modalities among slow learners.
