How to Prepare a Table of Specification
Steps
1. Prepare a list of instructional objectives – this describe the type of performance students are expected to demonstrate
2. Outline the content covered during instruction – should be adequate enough, covering all areas taught (if possible)
3. Draw a two dimensions table in which content and objectives are put together in a table by listing the objectives across the top of the table (horizontally) and the content down the table (vertically)
To determine what proportion of test items to be devoted to each objective will depend on a number of factors:
i. How important is each area in the total learning experience?
ii. How much time was devoted to each area during instruction?
iii. What relative importance do curriculum specialists assign to each area?
