Establishment of UTS
The UTS wanted to establish a non- disciplinary educational system. Als UTS was established to remove the differences which existed between teachers who were employed by the private sectors and the teachers from public sectors (=government).
As noted earlier, UTS was not a professional body, it was not there to provide the teachers rights, but it was there in order to serve the government’s interests.
It was set up by the government for the fear of possible development of trade unionism among the united teaching force which demanded for better salaries and good working conditions.
The UTS lasted until 1989 when another professional body was formed in Tanzania, the Teacher’s Service Commission.
