Reasons for Teachers’ Moral Practice
What is a basis of ethical or moral practice?
Different grounds:
1. The divine command perspective
God Himself is good. So whatever comes from Him should be good. Hence teachers should be good because it’s a command from God. The founder of good life or moral conduct is our God. Therefore it is God’s command to all human beings to live a good life, including teachers
2. A Kantian ethics of reciprocity
If you think there are moral values that you want others to obey, you need to do it the same as to yourself. This suggests that to obey rules is important on the grounds that other people obey them as well. People are required to treat others the way they would want to be treated.
3. The universal laws/principles
There are universal laws explaining professional ethical conducts. Eg teachers, human rights. So, sometimes we observe laws/behaviors in teaching because of universal standards. In some cases, treatment of children may support or violate universal laws.
Eg punishing students like animals. Universal laws can limit our behaviors.
4. State laws; ethical behaviors of the country being determined by laws of the country.
Specifying what behaviors of the teachers as allowed or not allowed by the country itself.
Eg TSD (teaching service department) laws or regulations for teachers
5. Because teaching itself is ethical or moral undertaking. Parameters justify that teaching is moral undertaking.
