REASONS FOR THE FAILURE OF THE NANDI WAR
British fighters were advanced in military technology. The Africans used out dated traditional weapons such as spears, arrows, shields etc. while their enemies used modern weapons e.g. Guns and advanced fighting techniques.
Lack of unity: The Nandi didn’t involve the other native (ethnic) groups in fighting the British. This made them weak in battle fields.
British collaboration with other natives such as the Maasai overweighed the Nandi. The Maasai knew the Nandi fighting philosophy, they exposed the Nandi weakness to the British.
Over confidence: The Nandi were too overconfident to an extent of not making reasonable preparations for their battle with the British, they didn’t know the British military mighty.
The British scorch military tactics: The British weakened the Nandi by destroying the Nandi’s food bases and villages. This gradually weakened the Nandi fighters.
Wrong beliefs: Like other Africans, the Kalenjin relied mostly on the invisible power of their gods. This blinded their right decision on the British.
The assassination of Orkoiyot Koitalel Arap Samoe: He was shot by the British colonel Meinerhagen in 1905. This incidence weakened the Nandi and the war ended.
